Aspire Spring Gala
American Heart Association
What: The Boston Heart Ball, emceed this year by Tom Riles, the warm-up comic for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, is an annual black-tie affair attended by more than 500 Bostonians. Snag a spot at the VIP cocktail reception before enjoying a seated dinner and a live auction. Guests will finish the night by dancing to live music from Night Shift Entertainment’s band Soho. Andrew Cutler and Lawrence H. Cohn, MD, are the event’s chairs, and they hope to surpass the $640,000 raised last year.

An Evening for Bridget
What: Held in memory of Bridget Bomberger Slotemaker, who died of breast cancer at age 35, this event has raised more than $310,000 since 2009 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Steve Slotemaker and Sara Bomberger are the cochairs of the event, which features dancing, a silent auction, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. Dr. Ann Partridge, founder and director of the Program for Young Women With Breast Cancer and director of the Adult Survivorship Program, will also speak.

Aspire Spring Gala
What: Massachusetts General Hospital hosts its 13th annual Aspire Gala to raise funds for children, teens, and young adults with Asperger’s syndrome and related autism spectrum disorders. Last year the gala raised $1.1 million, and the 2013 Aspire Benefit Committee, which includes Terry and Tom Hamilton and Shonda and Curt Schilling, hopes to surpass that number with live and online auctions.
When: April 4, 6–10 pm

What: Celebrate the Academy Awards while fighting breast cancer at the Glitz, Glam, Give—Oscar Experience, the Ellie Fund’s 17th annual Oscars-sanctioned celebration. Last year the event raised nearly $200,000 for support services for local women with breast cancer and their families. Walk the red carpet like an A-list star before stepping inside to enjoy gourmet chef stations, cocktails, live and silent auctions, luxurious gift bags, and the telecast from Hollywood on oversize screens.

Huntington Theatre Company
What: Help support the Huntington Theatre Company’s award-winning youth, education, and community initiatives by attending its Spotlight Spectacular gala, chaired by Susan B. Kaplan. Begin the evening with cocktails and a silent auction before enjoying musical performances, dinner, awards, and a live auction. Last year the event raised $730,000 to support the student matinee series, Poetry Out Loud; the theater’s partnership with Codman Academy Charter Public School; and free and reduced-cost access programming.

The Jimmy Fund
What: Join The Jimmy Fund for an evening of fun and philanthropy at the annual Golf Ball. The black-tie gala, emceed by Darcie Fisher, raised $60,000 last year and will be hosted by the Par Fore the Cure Golf Classic. The night will include a sit-down dinner, drinks, speakers, entertainment, an opportunity drawing, and a VIP reception. Dinner packages, weekend getaways, and tickets to the World Series are some of the exclusive items being offered in the raffle. All proceeds will support brain tumor research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Joslin Diabetes Center
What: The annual event A Spoonful of Ginger is back, raising awareness and funds for the Asian American Diabetes Initiative at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Last year’s event raised $275,000, and the sponsors hope to beat that number at this year’s edition, which honors Ming Tsai, Eva and Nick Chau, and C. Ronald Kahn, MD. Tsai joins other participating chefs, such as Joanne Chang and Andy Husbands, to promote community initiatives, research, and diabetes care.

Where: Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave.
What: Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children’s annual Working Wonders benefit drew nearly 1,000 guests last year and raised more than $1.1 million for the center. This year, the evening features a tasting with guest chefs including Tiffani Faison, chef and owner of Sweet Cheeks Q and a finalist on Bravo’s Top Chef, and Brooke Vosika, executive chef at the Four Seasons Hotel. The program also includes a live auction and will award the first-ever Ellen M. Zane Award for Visionary Leadership to Thomas F. Shields Sr., who serves as a leader in the healthcare industry. Proceeds from the event will support compassionate care and cutting-edge research.
