CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: We were thrilled to have Mad Men star and Boston native John Slattery join us for a party at Smith & Wollensky’s in honor of his May/June cover. With chef Todd English at the VIP reopening party of his Charlestown restaurant, Olives. With Clarke Distribution’s president and CEO Tom Clarke, volunteer Rita Mendes, Clarke Distribution GM Sean Clarke, and director of finance Chris Parker at a golf tournament for the Schwartz Center for Children at Allendale Country Club in Darmouth. With Michael Groffenberger of Shreve, Crump & Low at the jeweler’s Newbury Street store opening.
The summer seems to have flown by, though not without some fantastic memory-making events. We celebrated our May/June cover star, Boston native John Slattery, at Smith & Wollensky’s Atlantic Wharf location with Joss & Main and Russian Standard vodka. At the Boston Design Center in June, our Editor-in-Chief Janice O’Leary talked with British designer India Hicks in front of a live audience about her style inspirations. We toasted to the 4th of July with a party on Nantucket with Stella Artois, BMW, Mohegan Sun, and Privateer rum. Thanks to the deBenedictis-Karlson family for hosting us at The Summer House. It was a pleasure to be part of the Best Buddies Challenge: Hyannis Port from Boston to Hyannis, during which New England Patriot and Best Buddies global ambassador Tom Brady joined the Shriver family to support this cause. We also fêted the launch of the new Emerald Lounge at the Revere hotel and the reopening of the original Olives in Charlestown, with a beautiful crowd, delicious food, and plentiful drinks. The team responsible for Red Lantern and Gem also opened Empire Asian Restaurant & Lounge on Fan Pier in prime real estate in the Seaport District with a packed VIP party.
The season wouldn’t be complete without golf tournaments stirring friendly competition to benefit important causes. We were thrilled to support the National Kidney Foundation Cadillac Golf Classic at Boston Golf Club in Hingham and the Schwartz Center for Children’s annual “Fore the Children” Golf Tournament at Allendale Country Club in Dartmouth. Newport International Polo Series also saw fierce competition between teams from Newport, Boston, and Palm Beach, as well as Ireland and Argentina. After watching the Saturday polo matches , we attended the Braveheart Ball and New England Lobsterbake.
Also in August, we returned to Nantucket for the annual Berkshire Hills Music Academy gala at Kay and Peter Bernon’s home in Cliffside with Hermès as the main sponsor. Finally, warm wishes to our friend Bryan Rafanelli who celebrated his 50th birthday at one of his signature parties.
