Kate Walsh Keeps Us Guessing

Where do you retreat when you need a break?
KW: Mexico is a top choice for me. I also love going to Anguilla, where I recently vacationed. I work with Oceana, the marine conservancy organization. Warm spots are good ones—I love to snorkel and swim, and I dive occasionally.
What's your most romantic city?
KW: Rome. The light there is straight off a movie set. It’s so cosmopolitan, and the people are both cosmopolitan and warm. I had a torrid affair in Rome after Under the Tuscan Sun filmed. I can’t tell you with whom, but it was torrid and fantastic! I hadn’t even planned to be in Rome. I had just bought my first house and thought I’d never travel again. I saw Roman Holiday one night, thinking that was as close to Rome as I would get for a while. The next day my agent called about the part in Tuscan Sun. She said they planned to shoot Rome for San Francisco. I said, I’m there!
What would you call the perfume of Rome?
KW: L’uomo—the Italian word for man. It’s a little pretentious, but I love the sound.
What's next for you?
KW: On-screen, the adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s coming-of-age novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. With the beauty business, a dry oil and a body soufflé. I personally chose these. The oil is a user-friendly spray, so it gives you a glow but doesn’t grease up your clothes. You can put stockings on right after rubbing in the soufflé, a deeply hydrating lotion with a subtle scent. All the products push different notes—plum, vanilla, amber and a bit of coconut, so they can layer together. They’re a nod to relationships and romance.
