Boston native Lauren Fitzgerald signed on with the modeling agency Maggie Inc. and quickly became one of the city’s most in-demand
models. Known for her no-diva-here personality, she is the face of local fashion designer Sara Campbell, has walked the runway for Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, and starred in most of Boston’s top fashion shows. Her beautiful smile might not just be the result of good genes,

ALINA APTEKER
Alina Apteker was born in Poland and
started Longwood Lifestyle & Events
with her husband, Jim, more than a decade
ago. This April they launched their own
charity, Longwood Giving, to help fledgling
nonprofit organizations get on their
feet. Their spaces are coveted for topnotch
events in Boston, the Cape,
Newport, and most recently the
Nantucket Beach Club. The business is a
true family affair, with her mother-in-law
often found directing the catering kitchens;
Apteker jokes sometimes that she
married her husband for his mom.

Boston and Cambridge we have the most PhDs
per capita.
Secret of my success: Respecting
other people’s time.
This decade: A woman

SHERRY KELLY
Sherry Ladha Kelly was always in the
business of science, but it wasn’t until 10
years ago that she went back to school to
earn her PhD in pharmacy. Now she
works for one of the city’s big biotech
firms, Genzyme, as a liaison between
oncology, hematology, and the organ
transplant divisions.
Age: 42.
I’m most proud of: Going back to
school to get my doctorate of pharmacy degree.

Davidson motorcycle.

When novelist Lexa Marshall moved to
Boston 35 years ago, after traveling from
her hometown in New York to Ghana to
New Haven, she intended it to be temporary.
But it was here that she met her
husband, fellow writer James Carroll.

writing careers in Beacon Hill. Marshall
is the author of five novels and one book
of non-fiction, and she has taught writing

So many Boston transplants come here
for education, but Amber D’Amelio came
for love. She met her husband, Mike, then
