Here’s the latest in Boston food news as Mikes Pastry opens another location and Jackson Cannon brings his cocktail greatness to Harvard Square.
You don’t have to be a hotel guest to sample the cuisine of Chef Matthew’s Gaudet much-awaited return, thanks to the opening of Freepoint Kitchen & Cocktails in the lobby of the Freepoint Hotel. Gaudet’s team will serve breakfast and dinner so go for the sweet Dutch Babies and stay around until its appropriate to nosh on the small plates like spicy broccoli with garlic, pepita, and apple and a Bourbon bacon apple and cheddar cheese grilled sandwich. 220 Alewife Brook Pkwy.
Boston’s own gin brand opens a new 8,000-square-foot distillery and tasting room on April 21. The distillery will be solely dedicated to Bully Boy Estate Gin production and experimentation and guests can grab one of the 26 seats to sample the product in full view of the brand’s custom-made 750 gallon copper pot still and experimental “laboratory” area. 44 Cedric St., 617-442-6000
Jeremy Sewall and Jackson Cannon are at it again, this time with Les Sablons in the historic Conductor's Building in Harvard Square. Chef Sewall offers dishes like beef tartare with oyster aioli and gaufrette and the rye spaghetti with parm, pesto, and black trumpet mushrooms. Descend downstairs in the two-floor space and get up-close-and-personal with your cocktails. Cannon’s team is crafting libations like The Bijou, with fords gin, green chartreuse, and vermouth, as well as the Pigeon French with cognac, banana, almond, and strawberry campari. 2 Bennett St., 617-268-6800
Build it…and they will come for pastries…Mikes Pastry, the beloved North End bakery has taken up a new home in Somerville. The location opened on April 18 in its new Assembly Row location. The bakery will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. 445 Revolution Dr., 617-742-3050
Legal Seafoods will open its new fast-casual concept, Legal Fish Bowl, on April 20 with six signature bowls, as well as a “Create Your Own” option. Nosh on options like The Tunanimous Choice, with sesame ginger tuna poke, jasmine rice, and a sesame ginger vinaigrette and Korean red chili sauce or the Salmon Poke-Manna from Heaven, with ginger salmon poke, brown rice, avocado, marinated cherry tomatoes and cucumbers, and Korean red chili sauce.
