Tesla glides onto the Boston SUV scene with the 2017 Model X P100D.
The world has Elon Musk to thank for delivering us the driving experience our parents dreamt of. Sure, we’re not soaring around in ying cars quite yet, but when you press the acceleration in one of Musk’s Teslas, there’s an undeniable sense that you are light years ahead of the gas-guzzling dinosaurs of our predecessors. Now Tesla has moved into the SUV sphere with the truly electrifying 2017 Model X P100D.
With falcon doors opening to the second and third row seats, the Model X makes a statement before even igniting its all-electric motor. Hitting 0-60 in just 2.9 seconds and covering a range of 295 miles on a single charge, the Model X is the most versatile Tesla to date. Not surprisingly, this futuristic ride is loaded with technology, from its eight cameras, 12 sensors and radar providing a 360-degree view of the road, to its HEPA ltration system that pumps medical-grade air into the spacious cabin, to the built-in hardware necessary to install full-self-driving capability—if you so wish down the road.
Some car enthusiasts have scoffed at Tesla for not delivering the engine-thumping attitude they’ve come to expect from powerful cars. But it might be worth noting that when Henry Ford rst rolled out his Model T, many equestrians were known to yell at passing drivers: “Get a horse!” Tesla, 888 Boylston St., Boston, 617.476.4003; tesla.com
